Brookhaven Adds to its Meeting Space and Recreation Options

In March 2006, the camp, conference center, and retreat venue developed the lower level of the east conference building, nicknamed "Nazareth," to allow for more meeting space and recreation. The large open area is finished out inside with natural pine beadboard, and the flooring is a stylish colored and etched concrete. There is also a stone fireplace and two restrooms. The room is equipped with air hockey, table tennis, foosball, board games, TV/VCR, tables and chairs.

Brookhaven Hires a New Director

In February 2006, Brookhaven brought Justin Boles on staff as director. Justin formerly directed the communications department of Christian Camp and Conference Association, worked as managing editor of two national magazines, and has been an Internet marketing consultant for 10 years. Aside from administrative and development duties, one of his primary goals is to help groups that rent the facility promote their own events and gain more participation from their constituents.

National Magazine Features Brookhaven

CampSight magazine published an article in its Fall/Winter 2005 issue, which featured an article titled, "Heavenly Touch," the story of how Women of Faith's Terri Newsom had a life-changing experience at Brookhaven. "My life and family have been changed forever through the compassionate women God sent to the tranquil surroundings at Brookhaven Retreat," Newsome writes. "If He can take a broken family like mine and get my attention through the serenity and
beauty at a retreat center, He can do the same for anyone." Click here to read the article.

Brookhaven Installs a New Climbing Wall

In 2006, Brookhaven built a horizontal climbing wall, which adds to their already popular challenge course. The wall offers the challenge of navigating realistic knobs and ridges, without the need for harnesses and other equipment required for high vertical climbing structures.

Brookhaven Develops an Outdoor Education Program

In 2004, Brookhaven implemented an outdoor education program under the name Brookhaven Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) for Christian schools and other groups and Brookhaven Wilderness Learning Center (BWLC) for secular schools and groups. The premise behind these new ventures is our belief that knowledge alone cannot transform lives, but a constant sense of awareness and wonder of creation ensure lifelong learning. At BOEC and BWLC, students focus on growth in these areas through facilitated lessons, scriptural applications and team-building and character-building exercises. Many groups have already taken advantage of our programs and facilities. Check out BOEC at www.brookhavenretreat.org/boec and review the reciprocal BWLC program at wildernesslearning.com.

New Recreation Makes a Splash at Brookhaven

In 2003 Brookhaven added a new water slide to our aquatic facilities. The slide, which is the latest in water recreation, will deliver swimmers into the pond with a rush of water and thrills by way of a half-pipe made of a canvas-like material. This new addition joins the existing zip line, trapeze, traditional slide, pontoon bridge, and water volleyball area.

Brookhaven Gets a New Look

In 2002 Brookhaven completed a massive project to improve our grounds surrounding the main lodge, office and parking lot.

Visitors will enjoy spacious walkways meandering around lawn and garden areas where a road and small parking area once existed.

The new look is more than cosmetic—it’s safer for our patrons. Only camp pedestrians and staff carts will be able to
utilize the new paths.

If it's been a few years since your last visit, there may be a number of positive changes to our facilities. In 2000 we built a log conference building on the west side that can accommodate up to 130 people. In 2002 we upgraded again, adding an even larger log conference building to our east side that seats 300 people. In the last few years we also constructed a cover for the basketball/tennis courts to provide additional shade for our campers and guests.

Schedule some time to drop by Brookhaven and see our improvements for yourself.
