How are medical needs handled at Brookhaven Outdoor Education Center?

Our staff is certified in First Aid and CPR through the American Red Cross.  In the event of minor medical injuries or illnesses, Brookhaven staff will treat and carefully monitor each guest on a case by case basis.  For students with serious emergencies, a chaperone should contact a Brookhaven staff member.  The student’s emergency contact person will be notified and will approve a course of action.

How are students transported?

The school will provide transportation for their groups traveling to and from Brookhaven at all times during their stay (including cases of illness, injury, or disciplinary problems).  At no time during their stay will students be allowed in motorized vehicles unless explicitly permitted and monitored by a school chaperone.

Are adults required to stay with the kids?

Adult chaperones will be required to sleep in the dormitory with the students in a 10:1 ratio of students to chaperone.  Chaperones will also supervise students during school-scheduled activities and between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m .  Students will also be monitored during meal times.

How does mealtime work at Brookhaven Outdoor Education Center?

Our kitchen staff prepares delicious, quality foods and serves the meals buffet-style.  Students and chaperones should be in prompt attendance at all meals.  Any guest with special dietary needs should notify Brookhaven at least one week prior to their arrival and reasonable accommodations will be made.  As an option, the final meal for guests can be prepared as boxed lunches to allow for school picnics or additional field trips on the ride home.
